Peterborough is one of the fastest growing cities in the UK, with a population of over 200,000 and counting, but what makes it a good place to buy property?.

What are the benefits of living in Peterborough?

If you’re wondering whether Peterborough is a good place to live, we’re revealing some of the perks that might pique your interest.

Not too urban but plenty of job opportunities – if these are criteria for a city you want to live in, Peterborough might just be the right place.

An up-and-coming city, Peterborough has plenty to offer, with more development in the pipeline. Discover some of the highlights below.

Plenty of job opportunities

A record-number of job vacancies were reported across all sectors in July 2022. This means there are plenty of opportunities to advance your career, try your hand at something new and generate income. It should certainly make looking for work a less trying experience than in other parts of the country.

New higher-education opportunities

The new Anglia Ruskin University is set to open its doors this September. It’s promoting itself as a university with a difference, with a focus on working with the community.

Close to London

Peterborough is situated just off the A1 and has a fast train link with London that takes under an hour. This proximity to the capital makes it a desirable place to live.

New suburbs and developments

With up-and-coming areas including the Hamptons and the new apartments at Fletton Quays, there are plenty of options for families and young couples alike.

Nature is never far away

Dotted around the city are plenty of parks and nature reserves, including the family-friendly Ferry Meadows. This country park offers plenty of activities including cycling, kayaking and wild swimming in the summer. You’re also not far from the Fens, a flat, big-sky landscape that’s ideal for birdwatching.

Is Peterborough good for property investment?

Let’s talk numbers. Peterborough isn’t the cheapest place to live, but it’s certainly more affordable than property in London or the home counties.

According to Rightmove, properties in Peterborough over the last year (August 2021 – August 2022) had an overall average price of £230,341. Meanwhile, for the same buying period, properties in London had an overall average price of £707,859. For Hertford, the average price was £433,112. That’s a considerable difference!

As an up and coming city, Peterborough is considered a good place to invest. However, it’s always worth getting expert advice.
